RULES FOR POSTING A GAME CONCEPT
We at The Dead Will Walk are very supportive of creative writing, and we like to encourage others to flex their skills and join in the games. We love
it when our players suggest a new game concept, but there are a few rules that must be followed.
1 - You must have a MINIMUM of 50 IN GAME posts before you can GM your own game.
We will not budge on this rule, so do not attempt to appeal your case to us.
The 50 posts MUST be IN GAME, not a lot of useless OOC banter.
Why do we require a minimum of 50 posts? This allows the Staff to see your skills as a writer and player, it helps you understand how we run the games here, and it allows you to develop yourself as a player which will help with GMing.
It may seem a daunting task to reach 50 posts, but it's not impossible.
And YES, we WILL count your posts and make sure you have 50 IN GAME before you can make a game.
2 - You must be willing and ready to GM the game if you are going to create it.
Sure, we like ideas, but most of us are extremely busy in real life and on the site, and we simply may not have time to establish a new game for you. This is your idea, you should take the reigns.
3 - You must get a MINIMUM of three people to agree to play your game and make characters.
You wouldn't want to start a game with no players, how much fun would that be?
This also proves the viability of a concept to the Staff.
4 - You must display a working knowledge of proper grammar, punctuation usage, and writing skills.
No, you don't have to be an English major, but the Staff and players must be able to understand your posts without a translator.
5 - Before you post a concept, you should put some thought in to it.
You don't need to have every single little tiny detail figured out, but you should have the structure worked out. Make your concept post as detailed as possible so people will gain interest in what you are offering. Building suspense in the backstory is an attractive way to get members.
Please make sure your concept is well written! We do not respond well to one sentence
Be sure to include some basic information, like: where is the game taking place? What time period is it in? What time of year is it? What kind of characters can people play? What type of characters can't they play? How do the zombies behave? How has the army, city, or government dealt with the zombie threat?
6 - Even if you GM a game, you are not guaranteed a Staff position.
Do not think that GMing is a gateway onto the Staff. We pick who becomes Staff by what we see on the forums as a whole, you don't ask for the position or work your way into it. Some people have been here for years and are not on the Staff, some people have been here only a few months and are.
7 - Unfinished Business
If your Concept goes dormant for at least 3 months, it will be moved to Unfinished Business. It will remain there for at least 6 months. While here, your Concept can still be revived at any time with a simple request. This gives you a total 9 months, after initial comments and planning stop, to get the players needed and start the game.
HOW TO TITLE YOUR CONCEPT POST
When you post your game concept, PLEASE follow these guidelines:
1 - Start with the full name of the game. [ ex. The Dead Will Walk ]
2 - Follow it with an abbreviation. [ ex TDWW ]
2 - Put in the style of game it will be. [ ex. PnP ]
Pen and Paper
Style- skills, advantages, and disadvantages are chosen with a points system. The
game play is directed by a GM, and players cannot introduce new elements to the game. Actions are determined by dice rolls.
Free Form- a concept and general direction is introduced and players take over from there. Players can introduce new ideas and elements to the storyline at any time, and they determine where the storyline goes. There is absolutely no direction from a GM.
Story Form- a guided style of Free Form. There is a clearly defined GM that moderates some of the actions the players take. Not as strict as Pen and Paper Style, no points on the applications.
3 - Put in the type of game it will be. [ ex. ZS ]
ZS for a zombie story or NZS for a non-zombie story.
Your title should look something like this:
[ The Dead Will Walk TDWW PnP ZS ]
If you fail to do so, you will be asked to reread this post and follow the directions.
