Character Story: Joel was born and raised in a small New England town. In preschool, he was diagnosed with dyslexia. Joel tried to have a relatively normal life despite the difficulties of his disability. At age 12, the Namiki's visited relatives in New York City. Days into their visit, the dead rose from their graves and the city went to hell. Joel and his family escaped the shitstorm by entering the sewer system. There, they attempted to survive for as long as possible. Years into the outbreak, Joel's parents died of diseases. With only David left, Joel tried to make the best of what he had, and the two looked for ways to make money.
They first pulled cons, but got their asses kicked more often than they'd have liked. They started working odd-jobs to make money "responsibly", but they traded this for the life of a merchant. Joel and David began buying and selling various goods, weapons, food, and anything else they could get their hands on. Soon after, Joel realized he could sense the minds of others. Skeptical at first, Joel was convinced by David that his telepathy was no joke. They theorized that, somehow his "powers" suddenly became more effective. The two brothers kept this secret between themselves, and tested its limits now and then.
Their business prospered, although there was always the usual prick that tried to hustle the two brothers by using Joel's dyslexia as an excuse to cheat them out in any way possible. This got the two brother into fights, giving both of them their fair share of scars. Life went on, and David grew tired of the sewer life and decided to join the military. He wanted to kill whatever was keeping them holed up underground, and even tried to convince Joel to join with him. "Killing zombies is a more useful way to live than being a money man in this piece-of-shit time." David had told his brother.
The idea of putting his life on the line was not something Joel had in mind, and the idea of being prevented from joining because of his dyslexia added to his insecurities. David attempted to coax Joel once more, saying that they could probably find a use for him with his telepathic abilities, but he refused yet again. David kept in contact with Joel as often as possible while in the military. But one day, he did not return from an overworld mission, and was shortly pronounced dead by scouts that found him and his team's mangled bodies.
Joel attempted suicide, but when he stopped himself from pulling the trigger, he ended up having a nervous breakdown and sold all of his possessions save for a few items of value. Seeing he had no one to live for but that his life could still have a purpose, Joel attempted to join the military. He would try to keep his dyslexia a secret if possible, and also hoped he would be capable of keeping his telepathy a secret.
Character Personality: Joel is a bright young man that has been tolled emotionally from the recent death of his brother, David. He is aware of most of the things that happen around him, but tends to keep to himself. Insecure about his dyslexia, Joel is sensitive about the issue when it is brought up, but attempts to keep it hidden from other whenever possible. Possessing telepathic abilities, Joel is often aware of the inner thoughts of others, and his insecurities sometimes cause him to delve into the minds of others out of fear. Usually calm and collected in tense situations not directly involving him, Joel is known for his ability to keep things from going too far and getting violent, though he is also known for his bad temper and foul mouth. In a vulnerable emotional state, he is prone to get angry at insults and backlash towards others, getting especially personal with the aid of his telepathy.
Character Appearance: A somewhat attractive, young Japanese male, Joel stands at 5'7" and 145 lbs. He is slightly built, with semi-short black hair, brown eyes, and light-yellow skin. A face picture has been provided.
Other Physical Characteristics: Joel bears a small handful of scars from physical injuries, and has no tattoos or piercings.
Character Clothing: Joel is dressed in a light-green long-sleeve shirt, dark blue jeans, and black trainers.
Occupation: Civilian Merchant / Attempting to enter the military.
Character Class: Scout.
Equipment: FN Five-Seven Pistol, two 5.7mm 20-round magazines, black tactical-fold pocket knife, leather-bound wallet (contains hundreds of dollars due to having sold most of his possessions, and various old pictures of friends and family).

(*NOTE* I will assume that telepathy is a one-way ability, being that Joel can sense the mental processes of others as if they were his own, but he cannot send anything back. However, I do have a desire to have Joel possess two-way telepathic powers, if possible, though only with the permission of an admin will I pursue this. Hell, we could even make his abilities become two-way over the course of the role play. Whatever the admin chooses to keep the balance of the role play in check.*)
