I think we need to change our rules and the application here a bit. The number 1 complaint I have heard since joining here is “PnP is too confusing.” To someone like myself, who has many, many years of tabletop gaming experience, it might not be but to new people and free formers, it most certainly is. It’s also very difficult to have someone new come into chat or pm you with a question on how this skill works, or how the ability scores work, when every last one of the GMs here do things their own way. I believe we need to simplify the system and all get on the same page, using the same rules. In order to do that, we need to come up with a system that we can all agree upon and more importantly, one that works for what we do around here.
The goal here is to create a system that all of our PnP games run on, one that we are all comfortable with that is simple enough for new people to understand and open enough for customization within the rules structure. A definition of how the game works for everyone to read and understand before leaping headlong into the character creation process and a first post. All of your ideas are going to be heard and considered. No flaming will be tolerated but I expect honest criticism from everyone.
So let’s start by talking about what works for each of us.
The application here is an adaptation of the GURPS rules and the only basis for die conventions we have. That, in and of itself, is one of the largest problems. There are no definitions for how to use it. I use a combination of stats and skills for a target number on the d100 and use an exhaustive list of modifiers to raise or lower the roll.
How do you all do it? What do you like about the current system? What would you change?
I will be opening new threads based on each part of the rules. I have some ideas that I will present to you and the topics will be open for discussion.
