Marcus could not speak, not since his father did what he did, but writing was one of the many ways that he connected with the outside world. If he didn’t race, or write or go running over obstacles and buildings, he wouldn’t have much. These things were his life. He’d spend the mornings in his apartment, writing up to twenty thousand words at a time on his Mac until his alarm went off, then he’d head out in his car to the beaches of Miami and do what the French would call Parkour for three hours, he’d then return home to do what he needed and would receive texts of any races coming up in the night. It was a good way to make money.
One night, Marcus received a text. It stated that Marcus’ father, an abusive, alcoholic murderer was now living in the quiet reclusiveness of a small New England town called Midnight Cove. Marcus’ wanting to pay his father a final visit, packing a pistol he’d won in a race once he packed his bags and travelled to town.
Reynolds got into the Cove quick; he drove around for a while before settling in at Heron Street Motel. He continued to write while he slept there for a few days, not leaving for anything and ignoring the texts for street racing.
The writer was not sure how long he stayed in that hotel room for, when he peeked outside one night from a midnight knocker he realised that the man was no man at all, but rather the remnants of a person with a face full of crimson liquid and cuts, the blood thick and wonderful in the moonlight as compared to the skinny mans pale skin. His eyes deathly white; the mouth thick with mucus like saliva.
Reynolds panicked, but panic soon turned into courage, and he plotted his next course of action.
