Name: Lance McCray
Birthplace: Stone Ridge, Arizona
Character Story: Lance McCray is the youngest of three children (Isabelle, Jimmy, and Lance). He grew up in Arizona with just his immediate family. His father, Daniel McCray, was originally from Kansas and had moved West away from his family to get away from all the drama and find a fresh start. Daniel worked as a high-end retail butcher in Kansas and his skills in that occupation had never left him wanting for money, so he sought the same work in Arizona. He met his wife Nancy in Phoenix and eventually owned his own butcher shop, McCray's Meats with the logo, 'M2.' Shortly after, they were blessed with twins, James and Isabelle. 5 years later Lance came along and was Nancy's favorite child, though she wouldn't say it aloud.
Growing up Lance was spoiled, as the youngest children usually are. He had a great relationship with his brother, but there was a lot of friction between him and his older sister, especially once they got into the teenage years. To him, she was just a stuck up bitch, but he still loved her. Isabelle thought he was a stupid jock, as he quickly became a top performer in track and field, basketball, and swimming. Lance was a natural athlete and popular with everyone, even the older kids in Isabelle and JD's senior class once he got to high school. Isabelle was more of a bookworm and a nerd.
Lance actually did fairly well in school prior to becoming a freshman, showing great promise as a scholar, until cancer took Nancy away from the McCray family in the summer before 9th grade. It affected him deeply but he didn't let it show, instead he just pushed himself as hard as he could physically, in both partying and athletics. His grades began to slip. Seeing the mortality of his mother made him question a lot of things, including where his place in life was. His father had always been kind to his children, but the difficulty with the McCray family back in Kansas had left him scarred, and he always seemed a little distant. Daniel McCray wanted to pass his butcher skills down to his sons, and JD took to it naturally. Lance could do it, but it bored him and he quickly stopped showing up at the shop unless he needed money.
Luckily for Lance he was an exceptional athlete and got a scholarship to Arizona State University, where his sister was already attending. He had no idea what he wanted to do so he started with general education and eventually just settled for a history degree. Lance had no qualms about his future, he knew his athletic ability was what would earn him his living, not his education. The past interested him anyways, so it was win-win, get an education while enjoying it. The only problem was to keep his attention focused while in a class, regardless of enjoyment, because just being in a classroom could be such a bore. From going through his mother's death he knew you needed to live life to its fullest, which was why he brought up the idea to his friends, some who he had known since elementary school, to do at least one crazy adventure each year. It was a tradition he wanted to start, one that would hopefully extend past their college years. People were welcome to bring people along, they just had to get approval first.
Lance was always sure his brother and his childhood friend Alonzo went. JD was an awesome brother, he had always looked out for Lance when he was younger, but he was more quiet and withdrawn. Lance did his best to get JD out of the house or the butcher shop to have some fun. Alonzo also attended Arizona State University. First the group had gone skiing in Colorado, which had been a blast. Next they went to Hawaii, which was more of just a vacation than an adventure, but still fun. Next on the list was the unexplored cave system that Lance had discovered. He had been caving before and had been in geology classes, he had a basic understanding of caves. Combine this with his history degree and a little research, and he knew the place didn't exist. The only mention of caves in that area of Arizona were crazy Native American myths. The group's next adventure was right in their backyard! Most of Lance's friends readily agreed to try it out, some said no, the idea of getting dirt and sweat all over while climbing in caves didn't seem appealing. His girlfriend of two months said no as well, a foreign exchange student from Brazil named Kyra, but that was her loss. Lance could feel it deep within, this cave was going to be life changing.
Other Physical Characteristics: Tattoo of mother's name, 'Nancy,' on his upper back (right side) with the date of her death. Tattoo of grim reaper on left ass cheek.
Clothing: Lance has a stylish and trendy wardrobe for when he wants to go hit the clubs and impress people. If he had his way would just dresses in jeans, plain t-shirts, and flip flops, but he had an image to maintain. Still, he only wears clip-on ties, he doesn't have the patience for real ones.
Personality: Lance is a doer. He has great people skills, is adaptable to any situation, and seeks to live life in the moment. As shown with driving drunk on a motorcycle, he is a risk taker, some might say he is a little addicted to risks. All he tells people to explain this is that he is addicted to, 'feeling alive.' While he can make plans, such as planning trips, typically he gets impatient if things take too long. Despite some faults in patience, he is extremely loyal to his friends and family, though not the law.
Strengths: Athletic ability, social skills, reading people, vehicle handling (cars and motorcycles).
Weaknesses: Impatient at times, risk taker, abuses alcohol situationally (doesn't do drugs much though).
Name: James Dean McCray
Birthplace: Stone Ridge, AZ
Character Story: James Dean McCray went through everything his brother went through, only he had the first-hand experience. JD was the one who really connected with their father and his work, learning butchery from a young age. As a child he got along great with his twin sister, but as they teen years came, she was quite the preppy bitch as he would put it. Both JD and Lance were good at sports, but they still had that nice demeanor where people felt like they could still approach them. They didn't let success go to their heads. Isabelle thought she was God's gift to the world and wanted everyone to know about it. Eventually she calmed down about it, but she isn't too close to her sibling anymore.
JD was an average kid in school. He scored almost straight high Bs with a few As lingering around in high school, the counselor's said it was just a lack of motivation. He tested high in the IQ charts, but he just wasn't interested in what education the schools wanted to push. He would go out on his own to learn about whatever he wanted, from the Roman Empire to auto mechanics, but school just wasn't for him. JD graduated high school but just started working at the family butcher shop after that.
Clothing: James isn't much of one for flash like his brother, he just dresses in whatever is comfortable. He will wear appropriate clothes for the occasion, but typically he'll wear a wife-beater and jeans.
Personality: JD is a quiet, brooding man. When someone looks in his eyes, they know there is a lot going on underneath the surface. He thinks about what he is going to say before he speaks, much the opposite of his brother at times. He is almost a recluse of sorts. As far as his family knows, he hasn't had a relationship or dated for the past few years. He works, then stays inside all the time. JD has his own gym, personal library, video games, and all sorts of other things to keep him busy. People aren't a necessity to him. This is why Lance brings him along on the trips with his friends, because it is on these occasions JD opens up more. He has been around most of Lance's friends for a while, so he can cut loose. JD only speaks to one or two friends from his past, and his family is a little concerned he could end up being some kind of hermit.
Strengths: Great with knives, butchery, preserving meats, physically strong, remains calm under pressure.
Weaknesses: Asocial and still unsure around women even though he is approaching his late twenties.
NPCs introduced: Isabelle McCray (sister), Daniel McCray (father), Nancy McCray (mother, deceased), Kyra (Lance's gf), and Alonzo (Lance's friend).
