Mindrift [ Mindrift - Freeform - Non-zombie story ]
Game Summary: Imaginary characters from literature, movies, and all forms of media come to life in a battle that will test loyalties and morals, weighing the price of many lives versus one in more than a single way.
Game Setting: In the NZ forum based completely in a real world scenario. The story could possibly expand across the whole globe, but would start in and primarily take place in America.
Climate: Not particularly important at this moment.
Plot Drive: Within the context of what characters would possibly come into existence concerning the story, the plot drive is allowing players to write and mix some of their favorite characters from multiple forms of media in. The site is in a downturn on activity, and I thought what better than a fun/simple premise with good potential.
Player Dynamics: At the start every character has to at least be morally gray or on the good side. If you choose to turn your character evil, that option is free since it is freeform, but that would have to be something you write into the story.
Cultural Information: The world as we know it today.
Game Backstory14 Year old Arron Jensen was a special kid. He did not have many friends other than Tommy, but his imagination more than made up for it. Arron had already started writing stories and spent most of his time delving into books and watching all sorts of movies and television shows, many meant for adults. His parents hoped Arron would grow out of what they considered a 'stage' in his life. They wanted a child who was popular and sociable. Ken Jensen had been high school prom king and gone on to run a successful heating and air company, while Patricia was valedictorian of her college class, graduating with an accounting degree. The two of them lived in the real world, with little time for flights of fancy.
Tommy, two years younger than Arron, knew better. He had seen what Arron could do. One night the boys held a sleepover at Tommy's house, his single mother left them alone, off to the bar to try and find Tommy a new daddy. Arron had something he wanted to show Tommy. The two sat amidst a GI Joe battlefield, the end signaled by the jeep that ran over and still lay atop Cobra Commander.
Arron began visibly sweating and shaking, scaring Tommy half to death. His eyes had closed and his skin began to visibly pale. Arron collapsed on the ground as a knocking came from inside Tommy's closet door. The boy wet himself as his friend lay there unconscious. Arron came to a few minutes later, the noise from the closet ongoing. It almost sounded as if voices were coming from inside. Arron smiled at his friend and went to open the closet door. Woody and Buzz from the Toy Story movies, some of Tommy's favorites, came lumbering out as real as could be. Tommy was Woody's favorite deputy.
The ability to transfer things from imagination to reality somehow lay within Arron. It took a lot out of him to do it, and the beings would only be there for a little while, before they returned to his imagination. Once out, they never faded, only growing stronger in Arron's mind. Arron could also will them back into his head, something he found extremely useful when he brought Bram Stoker's Dracula into existence, quickly finding that it wasn't a good idea. The beings needed Arron to survive, but when they became real, all their faults, powers, and cravings came with them.
To his parents dismay, Arron slipped further away from reality, enough to where they wanted to send him to a specialist. Ken was taking his son to the doctor when the family SUV was t-boned. Ken suffered a broken arm and facial scarring, but Arron took the brunt of the damage, slipping into a coma. The vehicle that had hit them, reported to be a semi, was never found or had any record of having entered the city. What a semi was doing in a residential district was also a mystery.
Arron lay in a hospital bed, but many of the beings in his mind escaped into the real world. The evil ones have their minds set on staying out, and using this world as a playground. The good ones seek to protect Arron from those who would kill him, thinking that act would ensure their freedom forever. Others don't care, just grateful to have the time to be real. No one knows for sure what would happen if Arron were to die, but one thing they thought they did know, if he woke up they would all return. Many of them, even the good ones, did not want that.
Years have passed since Adam first entered his sleep. Slowly the previously imaginary creatures spread out, establishing their domains. Dracula took up residence in New York, where the missing persons list started growing. James Bond traveled to England to join MI6, only to be laughed off and threatened with a call to the psych ward. All of them did their best to hide their existence, knowing exposure would bring no good. But with creatures like vampires out there, it was only a matter of time before things got out of hand. A faithful few have taken it upon themselves to exterminate those wrecking havoc on the real world.
Rules/Guidelines: For now the only rules/guidelines are (if the concept takes off) to preapprove the potential character or characters you want to use as your primary/s before starting an application. Obviously since we are going off already created characters, you can't make up a whole backstory. Still, give your own little summary of how you think this version of that character would play out. Being 'real' characters is also a potential option. The most important part I suppose is what your character (if previously fictional) has done the two or so years since they have been real. Did James Bond settle down with a wife, or is he still up to all sorts of covert shenanigans?
