Character Story: Black Monday Blues: Ex-hitman for one of the biggest mobs in New York before the dead began to walk. Right before the initial outbreaks Monday had a little 'fall out' with his employers when he failed to eliminate another mafia hitman, who in turn took out several heads of the mob's drug dealing operations. Intent on getting revenge, the mob dispatched several men after Monday to take him out.
So on the day the dead began to walk, Monday wasn't paying much attention to the news, too busy fighting off a large gang of local thugs hired by the mob to kill him off. Turning the tables and gunning the thugs down, Monday attempted to escape New York, only to find that, due to the whole 'dead rising' epedemic, most of New York had the same idea, all-be-it for a different reason. Suddenly forced to defend himself from a completely different style of attack coming from the living dead instead of local muscle, Monday helped a group of police officer to escort a bus-load of children across New York to a declared 'safe-point'... only to discover that the safe-point was overrun by walking corpses.
After that it was the sewers or bust, and Monday's group chose the sewers. Soon they met up with many other survivors, who formed the survivor coalition we all know today. Whilst Monday never fitted in, his strange name, looks and lack of a past unnerving many of the survivors, they've come to respect the fact that he's willing to defend them all and even lead many supply runs up on the surface, risking his life to keep everyone alive.
So whilst he may be an ex-hitman who smokes way too much, can't seem to utter more than ten words without swearing, and his choice of wearing the same old balck suits strange, Black Monday Blues isn't exactly a stereotypical sleazy hitman who's only concerned with his own personal health. He's only ever mentioned his previous occupation to the leader of the commandos in order to explain how he knew his way around weaponary so well. How he learnt to use them before that is a secret he's not about to tell anyone... though the fact that he wears Marine dog-tags is a bit of a give-away...
Appearance: Monday dresses in a black suit and tie, though it's never exactly smart. His top buttons are undone, and his tie is very loose. Red mirrored sunglasses hide his eyes and some of his face,: quite why he still insists on wearing them is a mystery only he knows the answer to. His hair is presumably naturally spiky, since no-one in their right mind is prepared to sneak up to the surface for hair-gel... right?
